Stone Soul Picnic

The 2016 WLOK Stone Soul Picnic will be held on Saturday, September 3, at Levitt Shell in Overton Park. The time is 1 p m to 10 p m. This will be the 42nd annual WLOK Picnic, which makes it one of the longest running and most traditional events in Memphis. It is also unique in that the WLOK Stone Soul Picnic is free and offers entertainment throughout the day featuring major local and national artists.

The WLOK Stone Soul Picnic began forty-two years ago when two WLOK announcers decided to do a promotion at Riverside Park, which was later renamed Martin Luther King Riverside Park. Their idea was to spin records in the park and invite listeners and give them a free soft drink and free hot dog. It was a way of saying "thank you" to the WLOK listening audience. The announcers expected possibly a hundred people to come to the park and were astounded and overwhelmed when thousands came to the park to enjoy the day.
