Levitt Shell Next Generations Apprenticeship
The Levitt Shell is proud to introduce a new apprenticeship project specifically designed to create learning opportunities in music for young people. The Levitt Shell has significant resources in sound, lighting and video production for the 50 Free Concerts Series. During the apprenticeship, students will assist 6 highly qualified professionals in music that have been working professionally and full-time in the Memphis music market with decades of experience. Students will have the opportunity to learn from local professionals who work in fields of light and sound engineering, video production, radio broadcast and event production.
During the Internship, students are expected to be present and ready to learn from 4:00pm to 10:00pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Transportation will be available from students' schools to the Levitt Shell. When they arrive at the Levitt Shell, students will work with their supervisor and assisting with load-in of musicians and the set-up of stage and equipment. Students working on video production will set-up backstage and prepare for interviews of musicians and videography of the concert.
The total time investment by each student is 24 hours per week for ten weeks, plus an additional ten hours of training and additional time spent in training. Students successfully completing the program receive a stipend.
AFTER SCHOOL ORIENTATION: MAY 16TH-21ST
PROGRAM DURATION: JUNE 2ND- AUGUST 4TH
Applicants must be current high school students entering into their junior or senior year in the fall of 2016. Students must be a minimum of 16 years old.
No prior experience in music and/or videography is required, but students who have expressed interest or work in these fields will receive priority in the selection process.
Students will be selected from their applications for interviews, where they will have the opportunity to discuss their interest in the areas of focus and how they hope to use the skills they will learn.
